Claiborne, VF Execs to Speak at Material World

Representatives from Liz Claiborne Inc., the VF Corp., Cotton Inc., the Jones Apparel Group Inc. and several South American trade organizations will participate in educational seminars at the May 18–20 run of Material World at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

A pre-show conference titled “Advanced Strategies for Today’s Sewn Products Companies” will take place on May 17. Kirkor Balci, vice president of Western manufacturing for Liz Claiborne, and Frans van Zeeland, vice president of VF Jeanswear, will discuss fullpackage manufacturing, value-added service and corporate strategies.

On May 18, Cotton’s Kathryn Novakovic will present a colors and trends presentation for Spring/Summer 2005. Representatives from Central American Free Trade Agreement nations will follow up with a presentation on how CAFTA can improve speed to market. Peruvian textile and apparel industry representatives will discuss social responsibilities and competitiveness in a quota-free market.

The American Apparel & Footwear Association, which sponsors Material World, will host a breakfast addressing sourcing on May 19. Wes Card, chief financial officer of Jones Apparel, will be joined by several executives who will discuss product development and logistics strategies, carrier costs and investment decisions. A presentation by Colombian trade executives will also take place that day.

On May 20, David Birnbaum, president of Third Horizon Ltd., will talk about how apparel supply chains will be affected by the proposed elimination of quotas in 2005.

This year’s Material World show will run alongside Technology Solutions and SPESA Expo 2004, separate trade shows covering technology and machinery relating to the sewn-products industry.
