L.A. Fashion Week Fall '04: Michelle Mason
Los Angeles designer Michelle Mason literally stopped traffic for the showing of her Fall/Winter 2004 signature collection. Mason held the show in the Second Street tunnel in downtown Los Angeles on March 27 to differentiate the Michelle Mason collection from her diffusion line, Mason. (The Mason line appeared on March 30 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. For coverage of the Mason show, click here.)
Mason said the Second Street tunnel had inspired the collection, which displayed a dark, futuristic edge with feminine touches and the designer’s trademark tailoring precision. She said she wanted to mix different elements from the past century, yet make the collection cohesive.
Standouts in the collection included a black leather bomber jacket and miniskirt, a gold silk charmeuse gown with a gold knit shawl-collar cardigan, a silver-plated rib-knit cowl-front top and metallic leather skirt, a gold sequined warrior dress, and a tailored pantsuit with multiple button details. —N.
