New York Fashion Week: BCBG's Accidental Chic
Celebrities such as hip-hop diva Beyonceacute; and actress Sarah Michelle Gellar were among the legion of fans that gathered under the Bryant Park tent during New York Fashion Week to catch a glimpse of BCBGMaxAzria’s latest offerings for Spring 2004. The Los Angeles– based designer said the collection combined “instinctive glamour and accidental chic.”
Evening dresses and daywear pieces came in cotton canvas, seersucker and twill; some pieces, such as drop-waist dresses, were offered in chiffon, voile and shirred-jersey fabrications. Azria chose a palette of matte colors—peony, indigo, rose, cream and blue—and selected a graphic floral print for whimsical pieces, such as a halter dress worn with blue leather shoes that sported grommet details.
The styles were clean and sophisticated. Some looks, such as a cream-colored cotton twill jacket worn with a peony voile color-blocked bustier and twill clamdigger pants, were dressy. Others, such as a miniskirt featuring pintucks and ruffles paired with a delicate jersey camisole, seemed effortless. Rhinestonestudded sandals and duffle bags in pastel hues added a touch of panache to this season’s fashion lineup. —Claudia Figueroa
