Textile and apparel labor union UNITE has joined the lobbying campaign to implement safeguard measures to protect U.S. apparel and textile industries that could be adversely affected by increased imports from China, particularly with the phase-out of quotas on China-manufactured goods. The Committee for the Implementation of Textile Agreements, a division of the U.S.
Department of Commerce, is accepting petitions for textile safeguards until the public comment period ends on Sept. 17.
Petitions are posted on CITA’s Web site, www.otexa.ita.doc.gov/fr.htm.
