L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: Shawn
Designer Yohanna Logan’s latest Shawn collection demonstrated that when mating the styles of different decades, the offspring is often an entirely new species. Fashion followers glimpsed Logan’s design vision on Oct. 27 at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.
Logan raided the ’60s for shapes and patterns, which she then fused to ’80s “Flashdance” fleece, resulting in what a Carnaby girl might look like on her way home from the gym.
The collection was grounded in black and white, offset by dashes of pink and red. Mod polka dots, which served as the primary pattern, found their way onto a variety of micro-minis and off-the-shoulder mesh tops.
Other tops and mini-dresses came in heather fleece with hoods and drawstrings. Legs were wrapped in tights or leg warmers, with feet slipped into spats or white boots.
Other ensembles went for pure ’80s and featured masculine jackets over tight cigarette pants accented with zippers, suspenders and leather gloves.
Several men’s outfits were shown, including matching satin tops and bottoms with a boxing influence, and a few maternity looks were offered, as well. —C.M.C.
