L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: 2 B Free
Yves and Cedric Benaroch’s 2 B Free, a mere tank-top line a couple of seasons ago, has blossomed into a collection of whimsical sportswear with a growing number of A-list retail accounts and celebrity fans. The Los Angeles–based brothers showed their latest collection of low-cut sweat suits, tanks, T-shirts and combat pants on Oct. 27 during Smashbox Fashion Week to a packed house at Smashbox Studios in Culver City.
The designers believe in freedom in fashion, and whatever goes, goes. A little bit urban, a little bit retro—it’s “all good” when it comes to outfitting the female form.
For Spring, the brothers brought their ubiquitous spade emblem to more than tops. At the center of the collection were low-cut sweat suits in myriad shades of bubblegum colors, from aqua to banana and even pumpkin. Graffiti prints, Gothic symbols and reverse constructions were highlighted along with cargo pants, hoodies and nylon shorts detailed with rhinestones.
It was a line that some described as “a little irreverent, but exactly what Los Angeles wants.” —Robert McAllister
