Dallas Center Appoints New VP

Former AmericasMart Atlanta executive Peg Canter has joined the Dallas Market Center as its new vice president of trade events. She will oversee temporary leasing for all DMC-produced trade shows in the apparel, gift and home furnishings industries.

Canter joins the company as it prepares for the opening of Fashion Center Dallas, a new apparel venue set to open in March 2004 in the DMC’s World Trade Center. The $21 million apparel marketplace will occupy approximately 1 million square feet on the top six floors of the World Trade Center. It will be located near several floors of gift and home furnishings showrooms. Fashion Center Dallas replaces the 39- year-old International Apparel Center, which will hold its last major show in Dallas in January. Several redevelopment options are being explored, said DMC spokesman Cole Daugherty.

Canter will report to Cindy Morris, the DMC’s chief operating officer.

Bill Winsor, chief executive of the DMC, called Canter a leader with extensive experience in retail management, business development and marketing. “She is highly respected for her innovative and strategic thinking, and she will be a tremendous asset to our team as we strengthen our position as the world’s most dynamic marketplace,” he said.

Canter served as executive vice president and general manager of AmericasMart Atlanta for 10 years. She managed Atlanta’s temporary exhibit venues and played a key role in launching the gift mart.

Canter also owned and operated two successful women’s specialty clothing stores and has taught fashion merchandising at the college level. —Robert McAllister
