More Holiday
Shoppers are planning to spend up to 7 percent more during the holiday season this year than they did last year, according to a recent report by tax and consulting company Deloitte Consulting and the National Retail Federation. The NRF announced that the average consumer is planning to spend $672 on holiday gifts, up from $649 last year. But most consumers will be looking for bargains, the NRF cautioned, noting that the majority of people they surveyed cited discounted prices as the main motivator for buying. Seventy-five percent of NRF’s respondents said they were planning to shop at discounter stores this holiday. And Southern Californians are among the thriftiest shoppers, according to the NRF, which found that Southern Californians were more likely than the average consumer to pick up holiday gifts at discounters such as Costco or Sam’s Club.
