L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: Millergirl
Shipwrecked. That was the look of Millergirl, Nicole Miller’s new sportswear collection, which launched on Oct. 29 at Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A.
The shipwrecked theme captured Miller’s “modern interpretation of romanticism mixed with an edgy street element.” The designer has made Los Angeles the official home of her hip new collection, which has all the elements an L.A. girl might need in her wardrobe.
The collection featured pirate and sailor looks from the high seas with hard lines, washed materials and raw edges. Miller combined shipwreck-print T-shirts and dresses, long vests, captain’s jackets, crocheted halter tops, and oversize blouson tops with cargos, slim capri pants, micro miniskirts and fitted shorts. Fabrics included nouveau damask with washed raw edges, silk, striped shirtings, linen and coated denim. Rope belts and drawstring details, coin jewelry, captain’s hats, fishnet leggings and head scarves finished off the look. —N.J.S.
