L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: California Market Center
Retro, feminine and punk themes were just a few of the looks highlighted at the California Market Center’s “Directions” Spring fashion show, held on Nov. 1 at the historic Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.
The show featured styles from some of the showrooms at the CMC and probably gave buyers their most comprehensive glance at the direction of Spring 2004 during Los Angeles Fashion Week.
Highlighting the show were optic prints; layered and ethereal silhouettes; “country club” sportswear; ’80s retro and punk casuals; Americana red, white and blue motifs; and feminine silhouettes that were heavy with pinks and florals.
Featured items included color-blocked silk dresses in bright “Mondrian” colors by Sue Wong, along with optic-print dresses by Sharagano and Casting. Max Studio and J.M. Original showed ballet dresses, while Sheri Bodell went for ruched and ruffled skirts.
Pink was played up by many resources. Harveys showed a pink polka-dot robe and bloomers, and Pamela Brown showed a pink brocade suit.
On a tougher edge were punk looks from Jessica Louise, which showed a skullemblem jersey shirt coupled with a black lace mini. Joey and T showed combinations of graphic tanks and skirts along with zebraprint halter dresses. —R.M.
