L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: Mon Petit Oiseau
A memory-laden world of summer vacations in the south of England inspired British designer Tracy Wilkinson’s Spring 2004 collection of sporty looks for her Mon Petit Oiseau line, shown on Oct. 30 at Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A.
Vacation had also been a popular theme in her previous collection, with France’s blustery Normandy provoking her creation of long-sleeved turtleneck sweaters and wool miniskirts for Fall 2003.
“This year was kind of different for me because I got my American citizenship,” said Wilkinson, who started her label, which means “my little bird,” four years ago. “With that coming up, it made me think about England a little more and my holidays.”
The thought of holidays gave the collection a whimsical, light look that was seen in a navy-blue striped boat-neck T-shirt paired with a miniskirt and in a green spa top paired with a navy plaid ballerina skirt. Even navy knickers with a teal safari shirt had a beachcomber feel.
Knit T-shirts had peepholes in the back. There were plenty of subdued construction pants, sweetie tops and chickadee dresses. Prints consisted of stripes, paisleys and a delicate Japanese kimono design. —Deborah Belgum
