L.A. Fashion Week Spring '04: Mason and Michelle Mason
Michelle Mason returned to Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A. this season with a runway show on Oct. 28 that once again showcased her two collections, Mason and Michelle Mason.
Mason said that showing the collections together presented the differences between them.
“For younger women growing into womanhood nowadays, there is so much emphasis on sexy dressing,” said the designer about her Mason line. “I want to influence young women by showing them there is an alternative way to dress.”
The Mason collection included tailored jackets in military-inspired styles, trench coats, cargo pants, tailored shirts, shirt dresses, miniskirts and hot pants in satin, stretch-cotton, striped seersucker and jersey fabrics. Somber, earthy colors such as khaki, olive, mauve and white mixed with soft feminine shades of pale pink and blue.
The sophisticated Michelle Mason collection was built on subtle-but-strong color combinations, feminine styling and exquisite tailoring. Styles included tailored jackets paired with feminine ruffled skirts and hot pants, color-block dresses, jersey dresses with ruffles and ruching details, silk chiffon blouses with draped jersey pants, and strapless jumpsuits with tailored coats.
