Mixed Expectations
The Consumer Confidence Index rose slightly in May to 83.8 from 81.0 the month before, according to the Conference Board. But there were mixed results from the Expectations Index and the Present Situation Index, which track consumers’ expectations of current and future economic situations, according to the New York–based research organization. The Expectations Index rose to 94.9 in April from 84.8 in March, and the Present Situation Index dropped to 67.9 in April from 75.2 the month before.
