Wal-Mart Suit Filed
A group of female Wal-Mart store managers in California has filed suit against the Bentonville, Ark.–based retail giant, charging job discrimination. According to the brief filed with the court, the female managers were required to attend strip clubs with male co-workers during business trips, and business meetings were held at Hooters restaurants. The retailer denied the claims and pointed to payroll data that shows “nine out of 10 times, women and men are paid equally” and that the number of women promoted within the company was consistent with the percentage that applied for promotion.
