Accessorizing Peace
At this year’s Academy Awards ceremony, many stars will be committing a fashion faux pas—they will be wearing the same accessory.
Jewelry designer Henry Dunay has joined forces with Global Vision for Peace, a nonprofit organization in Los Angeles, to create “Peace Pins.” Dunay has produced 150 pins that will be worn by Oscar nominees, presenters and attendees, including Meryl Streep, Daniel Day-Lewis and Kathy Bates.
The goal of those involved is to express the message that Americans want peace to a worldwide audience, said Carol Marshall, a spokeswoman at PMK/HBH, a Los Angeles- based public-relations firm.
Pablo Picasso’s “Dove of Peace” inspired the design of the pin, which is crafted in both 18-karat yellow gold and 18-karat white gold, said Cliff Rothman, cofounder of Global Vision for Peace. The pin also bears a diamond as the “eye” of the dove.
After the Oscars, several of the pins worn by the stars will be auctioned on eBay, said Marshall, adding that all proceeds will be donated to peace organizations throughout the world. Additional pins will be available to the public through participating retailers. —Danny S. Penn
