Anaheim, Calif.-based Pacific Sunwear of California Inc. announced plans to open 87 new stores and close 12 outlets in 2003. The openings will include at least 10 new d.e.m.o. stores, the company’s urban chain, which will carry lines such as Eco, Enyce and Baby Phat. The company currently has 688 Pacific Sunwear stores, which carry surf and skate labels such as Quiksilver and Billabong. The chain made the announcement following strong sales results in January, when same-store sales rose 20 percent.
