The recession is over—that’s the word from the National Bureau of Economic Research, which found that the U.S. economy was in recession between March 2001 and the end of that year. Despite continuing job losses that have totaled 938,000 since November 2001, the NBER found that the gross domestic product—or the dollar value of U.S. goods and services—has inched up steadily since that time. According to the bureau, GDP growth is an indication that the economy is expanding.
