TALA Names New Board
The new board of directors of the Textile Association of Los Angeles (TALA) will be installed on Jan. 29 at the group’s annual luncheon in the California Market Center fashion theater.
Hal Kaltman will assume the presidency of the organization. Brian Weitman, Fran Sude and Shelly Zitner will serve as vice presidents. Jim Osterman has been named treasurer and Dan Sassower will continue as secretary of the group.
The 2003 TALA board will include Jan Rosen, Michael Goldman, Walter Colgan Jr., Rhoda Perkis, Brian Thaler, Mara Kasper, Shane Rabineau, Jonna Korsen and Eileen Ellis.
This will be the second time Kaltman has held the top spot at TALA; he served as president of the organization from 1986 to 1988.
Kaltman praised the incoming board, saying, “We have the makings of an extremely strong, dedicated board.”
The organization plans to take a more prominent, active role in the community, Kaltman said, noting that one of the first efforts will be to boost TALA membership, which has dropped in recent years.
“We’re going to turn the cycle around—we’re not going to wait for the cycle to turn,” he said, adding, “It’s going to be a working year. It’s going to be a fun year. We’re going to make it happen.”
TALA will also bestow its Member of the Year and Friend of TALA awards at the Jan. 29 luncheon. Board member Rosen of Kadam Textiles will be named Member of the Year and Steve Maiman and Tony Litman of Los Angeles-based junior company Stony Apparel will be named Friends of TALA. —Alison A. Nieder
