Traffic Up at Miami Swim Show

Attendance and moods were up at the Swim Association of Florida’s Summer 2003 Swimwear Show, held Feb. 25–26 at the Miami International Merchandise Mart in Miami.

Executive director Judy Stein declined to give attendance figures, but she said traffic increased approximately 36 percent over last year’s show. Some 350 exhibitors occupied roughly 20,000 square feet, said Stein.

“We as an organization took the steps to enable our stores and membership to afford to attend our show via incentives that we offered at hotels and restaurants,” explained Stein. “I am very pleased with the overall turnout at the show and the quality of stores that were in attendance.”

Many buyers came to the show to see 59 new exhibitors—including Aaron Chang, Lunada Bay and Wet—display a fresh wave of juniors and contemporary collections.

Stein said some of the more popular styles for Summer include string bikinis with embellishments, halter styles with boy shorts and swimwear that uses novelty fabrications. —Claudia Figueroa
