Kohl's Gives $2.5M to Children's Hospitals
Kohl's isn’t wasting any time in tossing its goodwill to Southern California. The Wisconsin-based retailer, which is building close to 30 department stores in the region, has pledged $2.5 million to the Children’s Hospitals of Los Angeles and Orange County to support child-safety and injuryprevention programs.
“As a new member of the Southern California business community, Kohl’s is delighted to help address this critical need,” said Julie Gardner, senior vice president of marketing for Kohl’s. “Injury is the leading cause of death and disability in children under 14. What is remarkable is that many of these injuries are preventable by educating young people through programs like those operated by CHLA and CHOC.”
Kohl’s commitment will support activities that raise awareness of issues such as car-seat, helmet, water and sun safety.
The contributions were made through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program, which raises funds for children’s hospitals through the sale of specially selected items in Kohl’s stores. Items including Shamu and the Adventurous Seal Pup plush toys will be sold for $5, with 100 percent of the net profits going to CHLA and CHOC. —Robert McAllister
