Greek Drama
A group representing African-American sororities and fraternities has sued shoemaker Converse, charging unfair competition and copyright infringement regarding a collection of shoes named GreekPak. The shoes feature colors and other identifying marks of specific African-American Greek organizations. The lawsuit, filed in the United District Court for the Northern District of Texas by the Council of Presidents, claims that Converse used these identifying marks without permission and with the purpose of marketing the shoes to members of the fraternities and sororities. Converse was purchased by Beaverton, Ore.–based footwear giant Nike in September.
