Warnaco Shutters Speedo Retail
New York–based The Warnaco Group Inc. announced plans to close all 44 remaining Speedo and Authentic Fitness retail stores as part of the company’s ongoing restructuring efforts. Some of the stores will become Calvin Klein underwear stores. The company will continue to operate the e-commerce site www.speedousa.com. Warnaco also announced plans to sell its intimate apparel production facility in Honduras. And in a separate announcement, the company struck a deal with Wal-Mart Stores Inc. to sell the White Stag brand to the Bentonville, Ark.–based retail giant. Wal-Mart has held the White Stag license since 1993.
