Drop in Confidence
The Consumer Confidence Index dropped to 76.6 in July from 83.5 in June, according to the Conference Board, the New York–based research organization that compiles the index. The dip in consumer confidence came as a surprise to analysts—particularly since the index had held steady between May and June.
