Mushi Mushi Retailer Mills Bows Eclectic Jewelry Line
Retailer Moss Mills has launched a collection of castsilver and brass necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets.
His eponymous jewelry line offers a one-of-a-kind collection of silver and brass castings, as well as some reworked vintage pieces. Mills, who considers his new venture a hobby, said the castings are replicated from vintage pieces he has collected from yard sales and swap meets over the years.
Fun and whimsical, the line has still-life pendants featuring birds, butterflies, chrysanthemums and does. Precious and semiprecious stones—such as sapphire, tourmaline, ruby, coral, jade, pearls and ivory beads— give the 64-piece collection a retro-bohemian feel. Some of the silver pieces in the collection have a matte finish; others are polished or oxidized. Each piece is worn on a sterling-silver chain, leather strand or beaded chain.
A large silver-link butterfly bracelet ($92), a Gloria Vanderbilt- inspired sterlingsilver double swan choker ($112) and a sterling-silver doubleswan buckle on a ruched leather belt ($98) are just a few fashion-forward pieces the collection offers.
Currently, the line is sold at Mushi Mushi, a contemporary fashion boutique in Los Angeles that Mills co-owns with his wife, Wendy Watson-Mills. Wholesale price points for the collection range from $24 to $180. Mills said the collection is also getting noticed on celebrity clients such as Naomi Watts, Bijou Phillips, Rosario Dawson and Rose McGowan, who love the line’s retro feel.
Mills said he would like sales to reach $200,000 by the end of the year.
The line was recently showcased at Fashion Business Incubator’s “Emerging Designers” show at the New Mart during market. Retailers such as Aero & Co. and Noni, both in Los Angeles, and Muse Boutique in Laguna Beach, Calif., have placed orders for their summer inventories.
