Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: David Tupaz
Extravagant fabrics and rich embellishments were the basis for designer David Tupaz’s Fall 2003 collection, which bowed on April 6 at the Double Tree Guest Suites in Santa Monica.
Tupaz used metallic gold twill for pencil skirts with back slits, gold lameacute; for sleek skirts and draped tops, and silk damask and silk brocade for fitted jackets and opera coats.
A black-and-gold quilted, cotton/silk coat and skirt worn with black boots and a babushka; a silk-brocade bolero jacket with a Nehru collar worn with a matching high-waisted long skirt with a fan-leaf pattern; and a charcoal–and–matte gold overcoat were just a few looks in the 54-piece collection.
Tupaz also incorporated Egyptian revival, Celtic knot and Queen Anne’s lace details into dresses and jackets. —Claudia Figueroa
