Fewer Jobless, Fewer Jobs
California’s unemployment rate dropped to 6.6 percent in March from a revised 6.7 percent the month before, but employers shed 4,100 jobs during the same period, according to the Employment Development Department. This leads analysts to observe that the economy remains flat. California’s jobless rate is still higher than the national rate of 5.8 percent, but observers said March’s lost jobs represent a small percentage of the more than 14.47 million jobs statewide, according to EDD tallies.
