Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: Rock & Republic
Rock & Republic lived up to its name by staging a high-energy, rock ’n’ roll show called “All Access Fall Tour” on April 2 at Smashbox Studios in Culver City. Models strutted their stuff in denim pants, miniskirts, jackets, and redesigned cotton T-shirts and tanks that were all inspired by designer Michael Ball’s love for good old rock ’n’ roll music.
Rock & Republic’s denim zip-front bomber jackets and pleated miniskirts with tartan inserts were strong. Jeans came fitted and low-waisted—some had straps or asymmetrical patches on the sides and others were basic with five pockets. T-shirts were cut-up, safety-pinned, embellished with zippers, or printed with graphics such as “Rock Obsessed” and “Punk Rock God Save The Queen.” More provocative tees sported the phrase “F*** France”—with black duct tape covering the expletive. —Joselle Yokogawa
