Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: Rebecca Rich
Los Angeles designer Rebecca Rich looked to the future for inspiration and came away with a Fall 2003 collection that softens crisp tailoring and stark hardware with soft fabrics and dusty colors.
For her April 2 show at the Downtown Standard Hotel, Rich built her collection around a few key pieces: a collarless jacket with buckle closures, a lace-front dress with an obi-like sash and slim pants, and skirts with mini-buckle details. The obi dress worked best in a navyand- white silk fabric with a geometric print.
The buckle-front jackets were shown both long and short and in stretch sateen and corduroy. The buckle detailing also turned up on a pair of chiffon empire-waist dresses—one short and blush-colored and the other long and in a shade of wine.
Rich paid close attention to the details, giving a jersey top with side ruching a tiny ruffle at the neck. The designer softly gathered a silk chiffon blouse at the neck, cuff and waist. She gave drapey silk blouses ribbon sashes that wrapped around the waist. —Alison A. Nieder
