Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: martinMartin
“Edwardian Punk ” was how martinMARTIN designers Eric Martin and Diane Moss-Martin described their Fall/Winter collection, which bowed on April 3 at the Downtown Standard Hotel during Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A. Looks were grounded by familiar martinMARTIN designs and details: long, full skirts that were pinched and gathered, draped tops and dresses, and lantern-sleeve coats and jackets.
But this season also marked a slight change. Most notable was the Martins’ use of color: a striking, bright red plaid and cobalt blue. It was no surprise, however, to see lots of black and white—a staple in each martin- MARTIN collection. As the clicheacute; goes, “If it isn’t broke, why fix it?”
Standouts from the collection included a blue-plaid pleated skirt, a black “flower” top, black and red loose-fitting, low-waisted “Chelsea” trousers, and draped jumpers. —Joselle Yokogawa
