Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: Kevan Hall
Kevan Hall’s intention for his Fall collection, shown on April 3 during Mercedes-Benz Shows L.A. at the Downtown Standard Hotel, was to take glamour to the next level. With the reception he received from his celebrity fans and others after the show, he appears to be on his way.
“I’ve got to have some of these for the Daytime Emmys,” actress Lisa Rinna told him, referring to the evening gowns, cocktail dresses, sweater sets and suits Hall showed to mark the debut of his signature collection.
Hall’s collection—inspired by chanteuse Maria Callas, stage legend Lena Horne and the gowns that both women wore—focused on opulence, the female form and, of course, glam.
Gowns were the main course at the show, and they came in a slew of styles with draped cowls, bustiers and asymmetrical silhouettes. Dresses ranged in color from brilliant red to classic black and came with beaded, laced and ribboned detailing in crepe, satin, taffeta and chiffon. Furs, ruched cocktail dresses, tulle blouses and cashmere tops were also prominent, as were items such as a black wool barathea suit. —Robert McAllister
