Los Angeles Fashion Week Fall I 2003: Frankie B.
Frankie B. designer Daniella Clark used influences from 1960s West Coast rock culture for her Fall 2003 contemporary denim collection, which bowed on April 2 at the Downtown Standard Hotel.
The Pussy Cat Dolls—who were decked out in white faux-fur stoles, squat-don’t-bend gold mini dresses and wildly sexy bouffant hairdos—opened the show with a titillating dance routine that involved a lot of thigh.
Frankie B. returned to its rock roots for most of its denim and corduroy pieces. However, Clark also introduced puff vests for men and women, which she paired with snap-tab, corduroy pants and denim miniskirts for a casual, seductive look. Some pieces—such as a pink metallic, striped blouse, a retro-print, mini dress and a pink polka-dot miniskirt—were a bit dizzying. A nude-colored, mesh ruffle bodysuit paired with a floral, corduroy jacket and a turquoise turtleneck mini dress gave the audience a fashion-induced hangover that left everyone jonesing for more. —Claudia Figueroa
