Fashion District Bid Renewal Moves Forward
The Los Angeles Fashion District Business Improvement District (BID), which provides services for the Los Angeles Fashion District, passed the first step in renewing its contract for another five years. Tenants representing more than 50 percent of the property in the district approved the BID during a recent petition vote.
The next step comes in May when the City Council certifies the petition and puts it to a district-wide popular vote.
The recent petition drive did not come easy, said Fashion District Executive Director Kent Smith. An opposition group attempting to form a smaller BID did not gain enough support to defeat the existing BID renewal.
“This was a vote of confidence,” said Smith. “I think property owners looked at our track record in making their decisions.”
The Fashion District BID, funded by area property owners, provides security, cleaning, marketing, informational and educational services to the area. Smith said more than 70 percent of fees received are earmarked for cleaning and safety. —Robert McAllister
