Natural Selection
Two years ago, Berkeley, Calif.- based jewelry aficionado Annie Decamp designed a line of refined metal accessories that mirror her reverence for nature and passion for fashion and beauty.
Decamp is a line that drums up the artist’s memories of serene moments: canoeing with her grandfather in Newton, Iowa; living on the Northern California coast; and traveling on China’s Yangtze River.
“When you really think about it, real beauty always has its foundation in nature,” said Decamp, who learned how to cast metal objects as an artist’s assistant.
Decamp’s 100-piece line takes its cue from Mother Nature with four artfully designed collections: Mod, Ocean, Ancient, and Feather Fur & Fauna. Each collection is made with sterling silver and 18- karat gold and uses organic matter for details. A large starfish pendant, a rounded barnacle ring and a silver necklace embellished with yellow feathers are a few pieces Decamp offers.
Decamp estimates sales for the collections are at 30 units a month. Pieces range in price from $45 to $160. The line is sold at specialty retailers such as Zedd Fine Art and Lava 9 in San Francisco; The A Store in Albuquerque, N.M.; and Homework and K-Bond in Los Angeles.
Currently, Decamp is creating a durable line of jewelry for women who like to surf and snowboard.
