Lockout Off
The threatened lockout of cargo terminals on the West Coast was called off by port operators after they were convinced that workers had called off a work slowdown. The Pacific Maritime Association (PMA), which represents shipping lines, had accused the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) of staging a work slowdown at West Coast ports after failing to reach agreement in their contract negotiations. The ILWU has denied staging a slowdown. The PMA and ILWU have been negotiating since July 1, when the contract between the two entities expired. So far, port activity has continued uninterrupted during the negotiations.
