Saks and Mercedes Gear Up for Shopping Cause
Saks Fifth Avenue and Mercedes-Benz USA will run the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer shopping event Sept. 18–21. At each of its stores, Mercedes will display a Special-Edition CLK Coupe built exclusively for Saks, featuring blue and stone leather interior, logo floor mats and a cashmere car blanket. It will retail for around $57,000, and for every car sold through a dealership, Mercedes will make a donation to help fight breast cancer.
Begun by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1994, Fashion Targets Breast Cancer has gained more momentum through a 4-year-old partnership with Saks, whose 62 stores and 50 OFF 5th outlet stores nationwide have raised more than $5 million for the cause.
Proceeds from the event, which is held at Southern California Saks locations in Beverly Hills, Costa Mesa, Mission Viejo, Pasadena, Palos Verdes, La Jolla, Palm Desert, San Diego and Santa Barbara, will help fund breast cancer organizations in those areas.
The Beverly Hills store will donate a percentage of proceeds to local beneficiary Cedars-Sinai Research for Women’s Cancers Institute, a 7-year-old center dedicated to eradicating ovarian and breast cancers through research, prevention and treatment. —Nola Sarkisian-Miller
