Flat Factories
The U.S. manufacturing index remained flat at 50.5 in August, according to the Institute for Supply Management (ISM), which compiles the Index of factory business conditions. The August index fell short of the ISM’s projected 51.6. The New Orders Index, also compiled by the ISM, fell for the second month in a row in August to 49.7 from 50.4.
