CMC Extends Fall Market Dates
The California Market Center (CMC), which houses the California Mart and the Gift & Home Accessories Market, announced extended dates for the Fall 2003 market dates in order to coincide with the planned Mercedes Benz Shows L.A. fashion events, sponsored by the producers of New York Fashion Week.
Los Angeles Fashion Week will begin two days early, running from April 2-8 to accommodate buyers who are in town early to catch the Mercedes Benz Shows L.A. shows, which will be held April 1–4 at the Downtown Standard Hotel. The Mercedes Benz shows will feature four or five designers’ runway shows each day in three venues at the hotel.
The CMC has also moved the Gift & Home Accessories Market up by a week to March 20–April 1, to give buyers a chance to show both apparel and gift and home resources at the same time.
And to fully round out the opportunities for buyers and resources, the CMC has moved the dates of the Urban/Suburban show of young men’s and junior urban resources to run concurrently with Los Angeles Fashion Week. The show, which is held on the CMC’s fourth floor, is currently scheduled as a seven-day show, although executives said the show may be shortened. Urban/Suburban typically runs three days.
CMC executives said plans are in the works to move the Spring 2004 Urban/Suburban show to October 2003 to coincide with the Los Angeles Junior/Contemporary Market set for Oct 13–16. —Alison A. Nieder
