L.A. Fashion Week Spring '03: Tree Studio
The earth’s glories, whether they be liquid sunsets or brilliant cloud breaks, were the impetus for Beverly Klein and Theresa McAllen’s Spring/Summer collection for Tree Studio, which bowed in a rooftop fashion show in Hollywood’s theater district on Nov. 2. Klein and McAllen used influences from many eras to compile their collection, which includes loosely constructed dresses, peasant tops and other separates contrasted with sexy corsets, kimono tops and summer dresses.
Other featured items included bat-wing tops, Deco-era mini-dresses, butterfly tops and multi-tiered constructed tops.
“We wanted to stay feminine but make the collection a little more opened up and looser,” said Klein. “We’re known for structure, but we’ve gotten a bit more relaxed to where you can still be feminine and be dressed up.”
The designers mixed fruity and neutral colorations including pink, orange and cream. Fabrications included jute and charmeuse, and several pieces were handpainted or embroidered. The show was sponsored by beauty firm Orly International/ Bio Solutions, which provided nail colorings. “We hope this is the beginning of a long association with L.A. designers,” said Orly’s Shel Pink. —Robert McAllister
