L.A. Fashion Week Spring '03: Private by Freddi Rojas
Los Angeles-based sportswear company Private, which recently shortened its name from Private Circle, presented its Spring 2003 collection on the runway at the Lot, a movie studio in Hollywood, on Nov. 4.
A last-minute change in location prompted a mad dash from Orange Studios, where the show was originally slated. Attendees were re-directed to the new venue thanks to a makeshift sign and maps posted at the original location.
The venue switch delayed the show, but free-flowing vodka and energy drinks from sponsors Precis and Private Energy Drink, respectively, kept the crowd in a mellow mood while waiting for the provocative and sexy styles of Private designer Freddi Rojas.
The change in the label’s name was initiated to signify changes in the line, including a greater focus on sexiness, as demonstrated by off-the-shoulder jackets, halter dresses and tube tops in very feminine colors for women, as well as low-rise jeans and fitted shirts for men.
Private’s Spring 2003 collection was separated into three groups. “Ballerina/Trucker” featured hardcore trucker jeans for men and pink ballet tops and satin hot pants for women. “Haitian Revolution” featured patchwork skirts for women, Haitian-print shirts for men and patchwork tops for men and women. And the “Black & Pastel” group included chiffon tops for women and cargo and militia pants and satin tops for men and women. —Darryl James
