BCN-Barcelona Showroom
Gerry Building Suite 405 (213) 622-2787
With the opening of the BCN (aka Barcelona) showroom on the Gerry Building’s fourth floor, fashion industry hipster Mark Encinias and partners Chad Weidmer and Doug Dresser are honing in on edgy, alternative apparel tastes and offering buyers an eclectic mix for their stores. With lines like Nomad, Motor, Cannibal and Divinas Palabras (“Divine Words”), BCN specializes in modern metropolitan looks for men and women.
All the collections are from Barcelona, Spain; hence the showroom’s moniker. Weidmer, who moved to Spain a few years ago, is the showroom’s European connection, while Dresser, a location scout for film studios, markets the collections to entertainment resources.
The dynamics of their partnership are paying off—several pieces in each collection will be seen in an upcoming film by Quentin Tarantino. Nomad’s contemporary denim for men and women, with pin-tucked knee and reinforced hem, starts at $60. Motor stretch corduroy pants in melon, vino and slate blue start at $44. Cannibal, an alternative tops collection for women ($39–$49), features long-sleeve velour shirts with exposed seams, raw edges and denim trimming. “It’s not exactly New Age apparel, but it is a new way of dressing,” said Encinias. Divinas Palabras’ cotton T-shirts and dresses screenprinted with religious messages and icons ($24–$80) add guilty pleasure to the showroom’s offerings. The showroom also carries a handsculpted jewelry collection called Shiny Pretty Things, by Catrina Gregory. —Claudia Figueroa
