DuPont's Evolutionary Studies
DuPont’s Rosann Forde, fashion director of DuPont textiles and interiors, presented her Spring/Summer 2003 trend workshop, titled “Evolution of Style,” recently at the California Market Center during the Los Angeles International Textile Show.
Spring/Summer trends will run from pretty and feminine to sports-influenced style, according to Forde, who highlighted how these trends could be achieved in DuPont fibers including Lycra and Tactel.
Forde divided the presentation into three trend groups: Polished Pretty, Natural Soul and the Dynamic Spirit.
“Fragile femininity” of the Victorian era and the “languid styles” of the 1930s combine with a pale and neutral palette in the Polished Pretty group.
Natural Soul blends gypsy, cowgirl, folklore and a range of ethnic-inspired motifs into a trend group that lets the wearer express her individuality. Colors are bold and spicy mixed with neutrals and metallics.
Sportswear is updated in the Dynamic Spirit trend group, which takes inspiration from active sportswear but gives it a fashion-forward twist. Fabrics are smart—with crease retention, low shrinkage and colorfastness. Colors range from sports-inspired brights such as chrome yellow and raspberry to traditional blues and greens. —Alison A.
