Antonio Lopez Illustrations on Auction Block
Fashion illustrator Antonio Lopez’s work will be on display and available for purchase at a June 29 auction at Santa Monica Auctions, located at the Bergamot Station Arts Center in Santa Monica, Calif.
The auction will also feature works by Andy Warhol, Alberto Vargas, Playboy illustrator Peter Polumbi and French illustrator Edoard Chimot.
Puerto Rico-born Lopez studied fashion illustration at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York in the mid-1960s. His career took him from an early start with Women’s Wear Daily to freelance work for several fashion magazines to a partnership with Karl Lagerfeld in the 1970s in which Lopez and the designer ran a salon in Paris for models and fashion industry personalities. Lopez published some of his celebrity drawings, including images of Jerry Hall and Grace Jones, in his 1982 book “Antonio’s Girls.” He died in 1987.
