Low-cut socks for men—so low they barely peak over the tops of shoes—are the new growth area for such sock makers such Chicago-based Sara Lee Corp., according to a recent report in the Wall Street Journal. The $3.7 billion sock business has stumbled in recent years, declining 4 percent last year, but manufacturers are hoping the low-sock trend, popularized by hip-hop artists and basketball players, will boost sales.
