California's Next Generation: Long Beach City College
The students of Long Beach City College played up the glamour and glitz for the school’s 26th annual fashion show, which was titled “Roll Out the Red Carpet” and held on May 23 on campus. There were plenty of satin gowns, polka-dot sun dresses and sleeveless black dresses that were reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn films, yet contemporary pieces were on the catwalk as well.
Students displayed intricate constructions with patchwork tops, ruffled blouses and skirts, open stiches and embroidered detailing. They drew inspiration from movies, historical eras and current trends for their entries.
Award-winners included Jelena Anaya in the Unique Boutique category for her pleated gown with toule, Monica Albarran in sportswear for a plaid tank dress, Claudia Perez in swimwear for a bikini with woven appliques, Patricia Garcia in couture for her two-piece set, Bianca Sovich in historical garments for a Renaissance dress, Jennifer Mejia in eveningwear for a velvet and chiffon dress and Kelley Dunn in after five for an asymmetrical-cut top and skirt.
The show also included a sponsored segment by Hippie Chick Style featuring the work of student Patricia Bosse. —Robert McAllister
