California's Next Generation: American InterContinental University
American InterContinental University (AIU) dubbed this year’s graduation fashion show “Utopia” and put the spotlight on men’s, women’s and children’s collections from the school’s 2002 graduating seniors during the May 31 event at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The show presented Betsy Galeano with the award for Most Creative Designs, the Most Marketable Design award was presented to Lauren Kim, and the Best of Show award was given to Miyuki Kitamura.
Judges for the event included stylist Brenda Cooper; Frances Harder, executive director of the Fashion Business Incubator; and Karen Mamont, director of public relations for the California Mart at the California Market Center.
The evening opened with cocktails and closed with a club atmosphere in a smaller ballroom to the side of the main event, where a number of attendees and graduates congregated to dance the remainder of the night away.
AIU offers programs with training in a variety of design career areas, including Web design, graphic design, computer graphics, fashion design, costume design, fashion marketing and interior design.—Darryl James
