Fashion Week Gears Up in Hong Kong
A host of fashion shows and trend seminars will be part of the lineup at the Spring/Summer 2003 Hong Kong Fashion Week scheduled for July 8–11 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, the event will feature more than 500 exhibitors showcasing women’s and men’s apparel, babies’ and children’s wear, and accessories including handbags, shoes and costume jewelry, as well as garment-related services and supplies. Event organizers expect strong attendance. Last year, 12,771 buyers, hailing from 78 countries and regions around the world, shopped the market.
The exhibition hall will feature the main sections of the Garment and Accessories Mart and the Fashion Gallery. Another part of the exhibition consists of six pavilions from mainland China, Taiwan, Macau, India, Korea and Thailand that will display their wares. In addition, the Asian Pacific Fashion Designers’ Showcase will present more than 50 designers, including, for the first time, designers from Australia, Thailand and Indonesia.
The market will also stage seven fashion shows representing Hong Kong manufacturers and designers, designers from Korea and Taiwan, and fashions from the local retail chain Moiselle International Ltd. One of the shows is a new concept hosted by the Hong Kong Tourism Board that will highlight the looks of Barney Cheng, Lu Lu Cheung, Dorian Ho, Walter Ma and other established designers from the region.
Additionally, Tencel, Cotton Inc., Worth Global Style Network Ltd., Colour Research Ltd. and Peclers Paris will present six seminars focusing on market conditions and fashion trends. —Nola Sarkisian-Miller
