Baker Named SIMA President
Ocean Pacific chief executive officer Dick Baker will resume his role as president of the San Clemente, Calif.-based Surf Industry Manufacturers Association (SIMA) for 2002-03.
The association’s goals for the next two years include increasing membership under the new dues-paying structure and implementing industrywide studies on the market and building educational programs, said Baker in a recent press statement.
New SIMA members include Jay Wilson, vice president of global marketing for Santa Fe Springs, Calif.-based Vans; Tom Brady, marketing director at Irvine, Calif.-based O’Neill; and Jeff Booth, director of core sales at Huntington Beach, Calif.-based Quiksilver. And surfboard builder Bill Bahne of Bahne Surfboards/Fins Unlimited will be the first representative of the surfboard industry to serve as a SIMA board member.
SIMA also announced the appointment of its officers for 2002-03. The new board includes vice president Paul Naude, CEO of Billabong USA, and secretary/treasurer Joel Cooper, CEO of Lost International. The 2002-03 Board of Directors consists of Fernando Aguerre, CEO of Reef; Fins Unlimited’s Bahne; Quiksilver’s Booth; O’Neill’s Brady; Dave Cunniff, president/owner of Custom X Bodyboards; Scott Daley, vice president of marketing for Body Glove; Gary Valentine, president of Globe Shoes; and Vans’ Wilson.
SIMA is a nonprofit organization founded in 1989. The organization is made up of more than 700 surf industry suppliers, including ones in the areas of apparel, swimwear, sports accessories and equipment. —Claudia Figueroa
