Jubilation: Contemporary Without the Contemporary Price
Los Angeles-based label Jubilation is designed with the contemporary customer in mind but without the contemporary price point.
The 22-piece collection, including novelty looks with stretch knits and solid mesh, features intricately constructed lace tops and skirts that appear sweet and practical.
Jubilation owner Jimmy Barlavi started the updated contemporary label last year out of a warehouse on Santee Street in downtown Los Angeles. According to Barlavi, the line is geared toward women between the ages of 25 and 45 who are business-oriented but have a social agenda.
“Women can wear it during the day for work and then feel comfortable wearing it out for a social occasion afterward,” said Barlavi.
The new collection will focus on items that are easy to coordinate, added Barlavi. It will combine the elegance of mesh and lace but doesn’t go overboard with details. Instead, the line is kept simple: plain tops and matching skirts with basic cuts, and some pieces include subtle embellishments.
Tiered mesh tops (with sleeves or without) are some of the better-selling items in the collection, which also offers lace-pattern knits in Habana ruffles and various peasant styles. Black, white, natural and red make up the collection’s color palette.
There are also little European touches, including a pair of novelty denim pants with a jewel-studded Eiffel Tower motif, and the collection’s mid-length pleated stretch-denim skirt is reminiscent of an English schoolgirl’s uniform.
Jubilation’s toile-print mesh tops with whimsical motifs are popular among retailers, said Barlavi, who recently wrote Spring orders for Zazu in Laguna Beach, Calif.; Soho in Houston; and Marshalrousso in Las Vegas.
Barlavi projects sales will hit the $2 million mark for Spring.
Wholesale price points in the collection range from $12 for a lacy knit tank top to $24 for a tiered mesh blouse. Bottoms range from $24 for a pair of novelty denim jeans to $49 for a three-tier mesh skirt.
