BBMax Taps Knight
Former B. Clothing vice president/merchandiser Sean Knight has entered into an agreement with Montreal-based private-label junior manufacturer BBMax to produce a European-inspired junior sportswear collection that is set to officially launch in March.
Knight was previously a partner in Los Angeles-based junior label B. Clothing with Bisou Bisou chief executive officer Marc Bohbot and Sam Levy, chief operating officer at Sun B. LLC. After the company shuttered last fall, Knight began work as a merchandising consultant for Wet Seal.
Knight said that last month he approached BBMax, which produced private-label apparel for Wet Seal and was looking to branch into its own junior company, and made them an offer. The company, which reported revenues of $150 million in 2001, accepted it.
“I enjoyed the [merchandising] work I did up until recently, but there is a huge response to the junior market and the demand is so overwhelming,” said Knight, who is currently looking for office space in downtown Los Angeles.
BBMax will produce a collection consisting of denim, knit tops and trendy bottoms, and the company will turn out both branded and private-label apparel.
Knight said the line will launch at five retailers: Wet Seal, Gadzooks, Charlotte Russe and Windsor, with private-label offerings at Rampage. Wholesale price points will range from $4 to $12 for tops, $9 to $15 for bottoms, and $9 to $22 for denim. —Claudia Figueroa
