Tracking U.S. Textiles
The U.S. departments of Commerce and Energy are investigating new technologies for marking textiles that would allow customs to verify imports made from U.S. textiles and yarn. The Department of Energy’s Oak Ridge National Laboratory is researching several technologies to create a cost-effective textile “marker” system. The project has received fast-track status, and initial findings are expected to be announced by January 2003.
